REDISCOVERING ROMACES: TALES FROMMY SECOND CHANCE AT DATING

Welcome Budget Babes,

Is it worthwhile to consider dating after being single for 10 years. Over the years, I have explored dating, situationships, and even experienced ghosting. The dating scene has significantly changed since high school. Back then, it was all about liking someone, passing notes, or exchanging phone numbers to talk late into the night until sleep took over. Those simpler times are gone. Now, the norm involves online dating, sliding into DMs, and swiping left or right to meet people.

Recently I met a man through Bumble. For those unfamiliar, Bumble is a dating app where women initiate the conversation after a match. After a few days of chatting online, we exchanged numbers, talked for a while, (about 2 weeks) and eventually decided to meet in person. I suggested we meet at Target as a first meeting spot to see if we connected. He agreed. You might wonder why Target of all places. I chose it because it felt like a safe environment with many people around.

We met at Target, as planned, because I felt in a public setting plenty of people around. Additionally, I was shopping for toys for then 2-month-old, and I wanted to gauge his comfort level with the fact that I have a child. It was important to determine early on whether this would be an issue.

Ladies, if a man reveals early that he has a problem with you having children, do not hesitate—walk away. It is a significant piece to my story: our meeting went well, we had a good vibe, chatted briefly, and parted ways. He was courteous to walk me to my car and helped me get my baby into the car seat.

Fast forward six months, and we had only been on a few dates. Our conversations gradually diminished, fewer text messages and calls, most of which were by me.  Let me explain I was getting vibes that he was only interested in the fact I was pretty and wanted company.  Eventually, we went on one final date. That outing brought clarity revealing the situation that he didn't want anything serious. Plus, it was because feelings developed on my end, leaving me confused by his true intentions for dating me if he was not genuinely seeking a potential long term partner.
